O-Sensei
There are two type of ki: ordinary ki and true ki. Ordinary ki is coarse and heavy; true ki is light and versatile. In order to perform well, you have to liberate yourself from ordinary ki and permeate your organs with true ki. That is the basis of powerful technique.

Who Are we?

Mandala Aikido is a school or a club founded by members that enjoy practicing Aikido. It was founded in early 2006 by 5 people who love Aikido yet had no good place to practice together. Tired of practicing in Sensei's basement they all chipped in and created Mandala-Aikido.

The school is set up as a non-profit organization as no member gets paid for any of their services. Everyone is a volunteer including our Sensei. The monthly fees are used to pay for the location rental, equipment, maintenance and save for the future of the school.

Dojo de la Montagne We are affiliated to " Aikido de la Montagne ", downtown Montreal where our Sensei's Sensei, Shih an Claude Berthiaume teaches. Sensei Berthiaume is the one who does our Kyu examination. Many of our members also take the opportunity to go train occasionally with the students of Dojo de la Montagne.

Aikido Federation We are also officially accredited by the USAF or the United State Aikido Federation .

Our Sensei

Sensei Martin Wise began martial arts in 1971 training in Shaolin Kempo and earning his black belt in 1979. He was then was introduced to aikido in 1980 at Aikido Kensankai. He earned his Shodan in 1993 at Aikido de la Montagne and continued to practice there with Claude Berthiaume as his chief instructor. He left there in in 1998, and was invited to teach at another school in the West Island where he taught until Autumn 2006. He was approached by some of his former students to open a school of their own. In January of 2007 they opened Mandala Aikido where he is now chief instructor. His teaching style is friendly, but maintaining high standards of etiquette and decorum.

Fun: We view aikido as a fun activity through which we relax and enjoy our practice without the consideration of it being a workout.

Peace: With aikido we learn to overcome conflict with the result of violent actions. Aikido basic principle is to result confrontation without force and harm.

We would like to share our passion with others and so we formed Mandala Aikido. The school is run by volunteers and the sensei.

Why are we so passionate?

Well... In short, Aikido is much more than a martial art, it is a philosophy . The philosophy of Aikido is also a philosophy of Training in Anything and even further it is a philosophy of Life.
